About Martingale Collars

What is a Martingale Collar?what_is_a_martingale

Martingale collars have a 2-loop design: a larger, adjustable loop that slips over the dog’s head, and a smaller control loop that attaches to the leash.  If the dog backs up or pulls, the collar tightens down to hold the dog securely.  You adjust the collar so it tightens just enough to keep your dog safe, but not so much that it chokes.

Adjusting Your Martingale

  • Slip the collar over your dog’s head and slide it up to the narrowest part of the neck (just behind the ears).
  • Pull on the D-ring.  The two metal slides should come together, but not touch.
  • Maintain a two-finger width distance between the slides.
  • Check your collar periodically to ensure it is properly adjusted.
